Happy almost Spring pirates and pirate fans! We have just finished up our winter season, our biggest team yet since the start of our club over 5 years ago. Our winter team worked in rain, snow, sub freezing temps and our very own Maeve Korgie made it to the New Balance Nationals meet! These kids all worked so hard and had a great season.
We are now gearing up for Spring Track and Field Season. First practice will be April 15th. The first USATF meet is May 5th, much more to come on the meet schedule!
As with all previous seasons, we will practice on Tuesdays and Fridays, 5-6:30pm. We practice at the Swampscott High School track ("Upper Jackson Field"). Our team President and Head Coach, Coach Jason ("Coach J") will be working with our sprinters and Coach Kiera, back for another season, will be working with our Mid Distance and Distance runners. If you are new to our team, both coaches will help you figure out what is right for you! We are actively looking for a throwing coach, so please reach out if you know anyone.
Our team is open to all kids ages 7-18 years old. You must register for USATF, and we will walk you through that process when you sign up for our team. The cost of this Spring Season is $275 and runs April to late June/early July. This fee includes two practices per week and a singlet. Meet registration fees are extra and will be billed at the end of the season (about $5-$20 per meet) There are about 5-6 meets this spring season and they are on Saturdays or Sundays. We use TeamSnap to post the schedule and we are very active on our chat thread for any updates to the schedule and we also use this space to chat about who will be attending meets and requesting events. When you sign up for the season, you will get a TeamSnap invite from us, and this is how we will invoice you the season fee.
Some of the Events we might train for during practices are as follows: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 mile, long jump, javelin or shot put. We also can train for hurdles.
We are super excited for this season to start. Remember, our team is for experienced runners AND kids completely new to running! All that we ask is that you come to practice to RUN and have fun, be kind to all and be open to challenging yourself!
